‘Ebb and Flow’: A Japanese-American family, an oyster, and how they influenced Pacific NW history
Ebb and Flow follows Jerry (Eiichi) Yamashita, as he recounts his
family history from the despair of the Japanese internment camps,
to his father’s pioneering efforts in the 1930’s to save the Pacific
Northwest shellfish industry from total collapse.
With the help of rare archival footage, the film begins with his
father’s decision to immigrate to America in 1900, and spans three generations of entrepreneurial spirit and triumph, while facing unending struggle and uncertainty.
Reception includes local oyster raw bar, shellfish hors d’oeuvres prepared by Xinh Dwelley, small bites, and organic wines.
